Mother’s experience of having a girl with precocious puberty

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify mother’s experience and coping behaviors on rearing children with precocious puberty and undergoing hormonal treatment.
Method: A phenomenological approach was utilized and data were collected using in-depth interviews. This study included six mothers who have a daughter with precocious puberty and currently receiving hormonal treatment. The method proposed by Colaizzi (1978) was used to guide the process of data analysis.
Results: Four theme clusters were derived from the interview data: guilty feeling because my girl is different from others, consistent anxiety towards my girl’s future, performing lonely fighting without support, and feeling of satisfaction from doing fer best.
Conclusions: The process of motherhood is endless and sometimes very tough. But these results are helpful to understand mother who have children with precocious puberty. Also it would provide these mothers with effective coping strategies in dealing with this kind of difficult situation.
